The story of "IO", thanks to an extraordinary animal hero, goes beyond the human perspective, but it is, above all, a deeply humanistic film - a manifesto in defense of what remained innocent in us. The journey that Skolimowski takes us on leads through the whole of Europe: from the circus, through stadiums and parking lots for trucks, to palaces. From stupidity to violence to flashes of goodness and solidarity. This collective portrait, which, however, does not lose sight of a single ant, combines realistic and visionary, down-to-earth and metaphysical, critical and empathetic. It resembles the greatest paintings by Hieronim Bosch and Pieter Bruegel.
