Eric Noone, a likeable and deceptively trustworthy pickpocket, con artist, and con artist, unexpectedly lands a job at an English manor house. The aristocratic Davenport family, led by Lady and Lord Davenport, struggles with the impending disaster of their eldest daughter's wedding to her greedy cousin Archibald, who wants to marry into the wealthy family. There, Eric meets Rose, the bride-to-be's younger sister, with whom he falls in love at first sight, even though every conceivable convention stands in the way. However, this forbidden romance is all but in vain, as a mysterious murder soon occurs on the manor grounds, casting suspicion on all the wedding guests.
