The whole is based on the true story of the friendship of Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. When a weary journalist (Emma winner, Matthew Rhys) meets Fred Rogers, he slowly abandons his skepticism, learning empathy, courtesy and decency from his America's most-loved neighbor. The film was inspired by Tom Junod's article "Can You Say ... Hero?".
