The French ballet Giselle, set to music by Adolphe Adam, is the culmination of the Romantic style in ballet. The peasant girl Giselle falls in love with a handsome young man, unaware that he is Prince Albert in disguise. The prince cannot marry the poor girl; he already has a fiancée. When the truth is revealed, Giselle dies of despair and joins the veela – the spirits of girls who died before their wedding. The Paris performance is an attempt to recreate the work's premiere choreography, created by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. The reconstruction was undertaken by two distinguished choreographers: Patrice Bart and Yevgeny Polyakov. Classical costumes and sets will also be featured on stage.
