An uncensored eco-parable directed by Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies), co-founder of Studio Ghibli. An unpredictable and abstract story about a group of brave tanuki (a Japanese species of raccoon dog) who try to prevent the destruction of their forest home due to the development of the city. According to Japanese mythology, tanuki can change the shape of their bodies. In the anime "Raccoons on the Offensive" they turn into people, monsters, and even some characters from the Ghibli universe. And these transformations are possible thanks to their magical... genitals. Thanks to this ability, they try to save their land from being razed to the ground and a housing estate built on it. In 1994, the film was the Japanese candidate for the Oscar in the category of best foreign language film, and in 1995 it received the main prize at the International Animated Film Festival in Annecy.
