It begins with the titular case. A car breakdown on their way home forces a couple with a young daughter to drive to a roadside garage. There, they encounter two mechanics, one of whom offers assistance. The other, Vahid, watches from a distance. The man is a former political prisoner detained as a result of anti-government protests. The torture he endured during interrogation has taken a serious toll on his health, causing him to feel pain with every step. Vahid recognizes this unexpected visitor as his tormentor, an Iranian police commissioner, nicknamed "Cripple" by the prisoners. In an act of revenge, he decides to kidnap him, hoping it will bring him solace. But first, he will have to confront his doubts, from whether he is truly the right man to whether revenge is an appropriate form of redress.
