Immerse yourself in the magical world of Studio Ghibli! Join us for a unique minimarathon featuring playful tanuki fighting for their home and a young witch learning to live life on her own terms. Two stories, two worlds - one unforgettable cinematic experience. DREAMS IN THE NATURE (dir. Isao Takahata): An ecological parable without censorship directed by Isao Takahata (“The Skylight Tomb”), co-founder of Studio Ghibli. An unpredictable and abstract story about a group of brave tanuki (a Japanese species of raccoon) who try to prevent the destruction of their forest home due to a growing city. According to Japanese mythology, tanuki can change the shapes of their bodies. In the anime “Raccoons on the Move,” they turn into humans, monsters and even some characters from the Ghibli universe. And these transformations are made possible by their magical... genitals. Thanks to this ability, they try to save their land from being razed to the ground and put a settlement on it. In 1994, the film was a Japanese candidate for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and in 1995 it won the top prize at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. KIKI'S SURPRISE (dir. Hayao Miyazaki): Anime master Hayao Miyazaki takes viewers on a beautiful journey into adulthood with young witch Kiki. The 13-year-old Kiki, according to tradition, leaves home to spend a year in a new city and prove that she is a full-fledged witch. With broom in hand and a cat at her side, she learns how to find her place in the world. Kiki faces not villains, but the challenges that her adult life presents. “Kiki's Sky Mail,” which is an adaptation of the popular novel about the witch Kiki by Eiko Kadono, is a universal story about growing up, achieving independence and discovering one's talents.
