The year is 1950. Anatole "Zsa-zsa" Korda, an enigmatic industrialist, one of the richest men in Europe, is facing yet another assassination attempt. Korda's vast, insanely complex, and ruthless business practices have made him the enemy not only of rival companies but of governments around the world - and a target for assassins. Now he is in the final stages of a decades-long, career-defining project, the expansive exploitation of a potentially rich, long-dormant region. The risk to his personal capital is unimaginable. His life is in constant danger. And he chooses this moment to appoint and groom a successor: his twenty-year-old daughter, Liesl. Along with their personal advisor, Bjorn, Zsa-zsa and Liesl travel through modern-day Grand Independent Phoenicia, meeting with various partners in a mission to close a rapidly growing financial gap, which Zsa-zsa describes as, “Everything we have—plus a little more.” Along the way: Liesl investigates the unsolved murder of Zsa-zsa’s first wife, committed a decade earlier.
