Sisters Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) meet with their estranged father, the charismatic, once-great film director Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård). He offers Nora, a stage actress, a role in his latest film, marking his return to the world of film. When she rejects the offer, he hires a young Hollywood star (Elle Fanning). Now the sisters must navigate not only their complicated situation with their father but also the American star who is changing their family dynamic.
