"Violetta Villas" tells the story of Poland’s most famous musical diva—a woman whose talent and passion propelled her onto the grandest stages of Paris and Las Vegas—as seen through the eyes of her son, an involuntary witness to the rise and fall of a star. The film is directed by Karolina Bielawska, creator of the award-winning documentary "Call Me Marianna," which received, among other honors, the Golden Horn at the Krakow Film Festival, as well as accolades in Locarno, Lisbon, and Saint Petersburg. Bielawska has also been nominated for a "Polityka" Passport award. She co-wrote the screenplay alongside Małgorzata Gospodarek. The makeup and prosthetics for Sandra Drzymalska were crafted by the team of Anne Cathrine Sauerberg and Thomas Foldberg—who are nominated for this year’s Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for their work on the film "The Ugly Sister."
