Dominik (Piotr Adamczyk), an outstanding art history researcher from the University of Wrocław, sets off to picturesque Porto Ercole to collect scientific material on the last years of Caravaggio's life. On the spot, it turns out that just before his arrival, another enthusiast of the Baroque artist's work suddenly dies in the city. The late father of Tornatore devoted his life to searching for the painter's works and believed that he would manage to find the priceless painting "Mary Magdalene in ecstasy", the fate of which had remained unknown for centuries. Father Tornatore's notes accidentally fall into the hands of Dominik, who, with the help of the newly-met cleric father Paolo (Luca Calvani), decides to continue his search for the lost painting.
