From the start of the year to the end of May, Polish cinemas welcomed 19 million cinema-goers. In May alone, ticket sales were very strong, reaching 3.9 million – a figure higher than that for the same period in 2019.
Last month, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" proved to be a box-office and audience hit. The final days of June also showed that it is the first film this year to have attracted over 1 million cinema-goers. This new chapter in the adventures of Miranda and Andy at Runway magazine is one of the highest-grossing films of the year worldwide. The film’s production costs have been recouped many times over. The first instalment played a significant role in this. The effect of the cult characters’ return to the big screen after 20 years was utilised very effectively.
Two other foreign productions also achieved strong box-office results: the first is The Mandalorian & Grogu, marking the first big-screen appearance of characters previously known from streaming; the second is *Michael*, one of the highest-grossing music biopics of recent years.
